DIY Build a Native Bird House

Build it right -- make a beautiful AND functional bird house to attract native birds to *your* backyard! Learn what successful birders know about bird houses, habitat, food plants, and more in this workshop. The right-size house, installed at the right height, built with appropriate materials = bird nesting success! Complement your love of nature with a bird house YOU build. All tools and materials are provided. Attendees will receive handouts for additional bird house designs including owl, kestrel, and wood duck boxes. (Plus: Find out why many commercial bird houses are dangerous for birds -- and how to fix these problems.) This is a fun, interactive class where you can ask questions along the way. You'll take home a completed birdhouse ready to hang or install at your location. You'll also learn the basics of how, where, and when to install your birdhouse to entice your feathered friends to move right in! PLUS: Birdhouses make GREAT gifts! $25 class fee + $20 materials = $45 Price is per student. This is a great project to practice using basic tools. Class is limited to 10 students; older, well-behaved children and teens welcome but every participant must purchase a separate ticket. Every participant receives separate materials to build a birdhouse. INSTRUCTORS: This class is offered through Central Ohio Women in the Trades. COWIT is a nonprofit organization focused on the education, recruitment, and retention of women within the various trade unions around central Ohio. CHRISSY MARSEY will lead the house building. TISA WATTS is the owner of the Columbus Garden School. Look carefully and you'll find many bird houses and nests for native birds that visit our school property! She'll share her knowledge about bird habitat, diet, and behavior. *If you need to cancel your registration for any reason, the 72-hour policy applies to your class fee.
